Our Mission

Accelerate the climate economy

The global transition to a sustainable economy is well underway. Renewable energy is cheaper than fossil fuels. Consumer demand for sustainable products is rising. And every business urgently needs to address climate risk, supply chain resilience, and resource conservation as a strategic imperative.

This new economy requires more granular and actionable business intelligence than companies have ever had at scale. To give you the tools to meet—and thrive within— this new economy, we’ve built the world’s most powerful sustainability AI platform.

Watershed combines deep climate science and the industry's most comprehensive sustainability database with expertly-tuned AI to surface the opportunities, risks, and decisions that will give your company a sustainable edge.

About Watershed

In the San Francisco office

We got started in 2019 because we believed that enabling companies to decarbonize was the most effective path to solving climate change.

Our mission is to accelerate the climate economy, and our 2030 goal is to work with our customers to reduce or remove 500 megatonnes of CO2 equivalent—approximately 1% of annual global emissions.

Companies like Airbnb, Carlyle Group, FedEx, Visa, and Dr. Martens use Watershed to manage climate and ESG data, produce audit-ready metrics for any voluntary or regulatory report, and drive real decarbonization. Watershed is the platform of choice for companies seeking to reduce emissions, meet customer, investor and regulatory requirements, and modernize their sustainability programs.

Watershed AI is built with in-house climate scientists, combining the rigor of sustainability expertise with the speed of modern AI. It handles the work that has historically slowed sustainability teams down—data ingestion, analysis, and reporting—so they can focus on using that information to make better business decisions. Watershed customers also benefit from an extensive ecosystem of partners, consultants, and advisors, plus exclusive access to a managed portfolio of scientifically vetted carbon removal and groundbreaking virtual power purchase agreements. Watershed's advisors and investors include Christiana Figueres, Al Gore, Sequoia, and Kleiner Perkins. Watershed is dual-headquartered in San Francisco, CA, and London, U.K., with offices in New York, Paris, Berlin, Sydney, Denver, and Mexico City.

Operating Principles

This set of principles guides how we work, prioritize, and make decisions at Watershed. They are a living set of values that evolve alongside the company over time.

01

Be customer-obsessed

Our customers are the cornerstone of our mission, and we keep them front and center in every decision we make. Empowering our customers to reach their decarbonization goals is our true north star.

02

Stack rank and drop

Time is precious—particularly in the climate crisis—and good prioritization unlocks the best work. Everyone at Watershed is encouraged to make hard decisions that keep us focused on our mission.

03

Cultivate diversity & inclusion

We can only succeed in a company where a diverse group of hard-working people feel included, succeed, and lead. We design our recruiting process, culture, and company to provide opportunities to people of all backgrounds, demographics, life experiences, and beliefs.

04

Bring intensity & care

We care deeply about our mission, our work, and each other. We’re here to do the best work of our careers with other hard-working people, to achieve a bold outcome—and have some fun along the way.

05

Take ownership

The Watershed team has chosen to try and help with one of humanity’s biggest challenges—and we bring that same level of ownership to day-to-day work. Don't expect others to fix something that’s broken; step up and do something about it.

Sustainability at Watershed

We are committed to sustainability in all aspects of our business.

Our core sustainability focus areas fall into two buckets: those that decarbonize our corporate operations, and those that enable decarbonization in our customers’ value chains. We use the Watershed platform to measure our footprint annually, and we are in the process of setting science-based targets (SBTs) to guide our reduction efforts.
